MG #1: 💛 I care
"The most powerful relationship you will ever have is the relationship with yourself"
Hi, my friend,
Thank you so much for subscribing to my Modern Grandmother newsletter! A newsletter just for us.
I am so thrilled to have so many grandmothers joining our growing community.
Every other Sunday, (every two weeks), I will send carefully curated recommendations for you, your life, your grandchildren. Useful ideas, stories worth sharing about other grandmothers making a difference in the world, niche ideas to start a business, books worth reading, cool finds, health news you can use, inspiration, faith, and oh yeh, justifiable bragging.
So, until our next connection, I would love to hear from you, seriously, let me know:
Why did you subscribe to my newsletter?
What do you hope to learn?
What would you like to see more off?
Your answers will help me to get to know you a bit better. My goal is to offer you value, real value. I care about each and every one of you. Just hit reply, or email me directly at moderngrandmothers @ gmail .com.
Thanks again amazing grandmother, and welcome, welcome, welcome :)

TAKE CARE OF YOU
In early 2020, we all watched as the world changed before our eyes. We scrambled to keep up with the ever-changing regulations and guidelines. And in our frantic striving to keep our heads above water, many of us let self-care fall to the sidelines.

COOL FINDS - SPROUT PENCILS
A small pencil with a big idea. Your grandchildren are going to love this! A great project for grandmothers and their grandchildren. Great way to start teaching children about gardening, and how to grow their own food and herbs.
Growing pencils? That sounds ridiculous. But, growing pencils now that could work. And it does! The plantable Sprout pencils can grow into plants like luscious flowers, fragrant herbs, and fresh vegetables once they’re too short to use.

GOOD EATS - YUM!
Oh my goodness you are going to love this simple candied orange and chocolate peel recipe. When it’s homemade it is even more delicious and so decadent.

FAITH - A Prayer for You
This prayer was my best friend’s favorite prayer. Every time I expressed stress in my life, he lovingly recited this prayer to me. For 25 years of our friendship, this was his go-to prayer. Something about the words always resonated with me. My friend is in heaven now, but this prayer which I have memorized is a balm to my spirit.
Slow me down, Lord.
Ease the pounding of my heart by the quieting of my mind.
Steady my hurried pace with a vision
of the eternal reach of time.
Give me amid the confusion of the day,
the calmness of the everlasting hills.
Break the tension of my nerves and muscles
with the soothing music of the singing streams that live in memory.
Help me to know the magical, restoring power of sleep.
Teach me the art of taking minute vacations…
of slowing down to look at a flower, to chat with a friend,
to read a few lines from a good book.
Remind me each day of the fable of the hare and the tortoise,
that I may know that life is not always to the swift.
That there is more to life than increasing its speed.
Let me look upward into the branches of the towering Oaktree
and know that it grew great and strong because
it grew slowly and well.
Slow me down, Lord,
and inspire me to send my roots deep into the soil
of life’s enduring values that I may grow
towards the stars of my greater destiny.

Justifiable Bragging
My Four Musketeers
I know without a doubt, a grandmother’s phone is loaded with photos of her grandchildren, and if you make the mistake of asking her “do you have any pictures of your grandchildren”, she whips out her phone faster than a cowboy whips out his gun, and for the next hour you are listening to the annotations and beautifully crafted dialogue about the greatness of her grandchildren - oh, and the smile never ever leaves her face for one minute while she’s showing you those adorable pictures.
After all, grandparents are the biggest braggers of their grandchildren, so here’s your chance to brag - every other week we will pick a grandmother and grandchild to brag about. So get those priceless, unforgettable photos submitted to us, with a short blurb explaining the joy in the photo and the lesson you would like to share from this special moment.
No more than 100 words, and a photo that you have permission to share.
These are my adorable grandchildren. All four speak at least two languages, with my granddaughter now speaking five languages and she just turned 14. Their dreams and goals are lofty and exciting - doctor, engineer, architect, police officer - oh, the places they will go. I tell you I speak nothing but love, blessings, and encouragement into their lives because they are going to really make a difference. They are my raison d’etre!
So come on grandmothers. Send your ‘brags’ to me, and I will choose a brag worth sharing each time the newsletter comes out.
Thanks so much for reading this far, it means so much. Until next time, stay safe, you are going to be okay. I will be back in two weeks.
PS: If you know a grandmother or soon-to-be grandmother, would you be kind enough to share this newsletter with them, and help us grow this community. Together we are strong!
